The traditional cashew industry in Kerala is centralized in Kollam District. Kollam is approved by the central government as a “centre of cashew industry”. Since 1985 CAPEX has been given employment to more than 4000 workers. The takeover of the closed private factories by Govt. during 1984 was to protect the interest of the working class and their livelihood.
